MURILLO DIXIE:

THE FELLAND FAMILY BAND

Murillo Dixie, the Felland Family Band is located in Ozark Mountains of north central Arkansas. Carl and Robin Felland and their five children moved from Pennsylvania to Arkansas in 1999 and settled in a community called Chimes. The oldest three children, Brian, now 20, Andrew, 18, and Lydia, 15 worked up the Felland Family Trio with trombone, trumpet, and piano, respectively. They began with Gospel pieces and moved toward a Dixieland style.

In 2001 the Trio became Murillo Dixie as Robin joined with clarinet, Joel, 11, with drums, and Daniel, 9, with double bass. One of the early performances was to an enthusiastic audience at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center in Leslie, Arkansas as a warm up for a concert by the Masat Family (http://www.masatfamily.com/). The Fellands have played an expanding repertoire in well-received performances in Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

"One family group from Chimes...made their Clinton debut this month, playing lively gospel music, Dixieland and oldies. Their talent, smiles and courteous manner completely won over the audience."

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette River Valley and Ozark Edition, Sunday, December 30, 2001, page 12R
