THE
YEAR
BEHIND US
1995: Visit to homestead and a bit of our own
As I gaze out of our window to the end of the Blue Ridge Mountains
I think back to a year in which our family has explored our roots
and charted our course for the future. We have enjoyed sharing
our lives with you who are reading this letter. We regret the
passing away of my Grandmother Barbara Felland and Robin's Grandmother
Velda Forbes. We rejoice with Shawn and Ruth Bohner and wish them
the best in their marriage.
We explored our roots with my parents and the Luckrings during
May with a visit to the Felland family homestead in Wisconsin.
Next year is the 150th anniversary of the Felland's arrival from
Norway.
I have begun a transition into a faculty position at Penn State.
I have been asked to take increased responsibility for tree fruit
entomology extension in Pennsylvania. I will continue to work
out of the same office.
The family seems glad to be sticking around. We are beginning
to think about buying a house, but in the meantime thoroughly
enjoy our rental house in the midst of orchards in Adams County.
Robin continues to homeschool the children. Brian and Andrew continue
to excel on their standardized testing. After the 1994-1995 school
year these two eagerly transformed scrap lumber from an old porch
into a club house.
Today the third of our five Black Giant hens laid her first egg.
Our chicken project began in June when friends gave us five peeps.
Brian and Andrew modified their club house into a coop that has
worked very well. So far we have had 28 eggs in 20 days.
Daniel and Joel enjoy each other's company. Daniel is out of diapers
earlier than the other children. Joel and his father took a trip
to New York City.
Lydia has progressed well in her reading and has even begun to
keep a journal. She has been corresponding with a pen pal from
Holland.
Andrew wears both glasses and braces. Brian wears the same size
shoe that I do! Both have continued to work hard at their piano
lessons. Both give their father trouble in chess and other games.
Robin is playing more piano lately. She has turned over some of
Brian's schooling to me so she can work closer with the other
children. She watched a friend's children here on Thursdays. Together
we strive to add to the children's godly heritage.
Sincerely,
The C. M. Fellands
1 Thes. 5: 2, 3 For yourselves know perfectly
that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For
when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction
cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they
shall not escape.
