Genesis 29: 35 And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, "Now I will praise YHUH." Therefore she called his name Yahudah. And she ceased bearing.
The Yahudim (Yehudim). This name carries various, sometimes derogatory meanings. It is derived from Yahudah (Judah). What is the meaning of this word?
The letters spelling YaHUDaH, yod-he-waw-daleth-he, in themselves can mean praise (Neh. 11:17), but from the context, the name includes who is being praised: yod-he-waw (initial three letters of YHUH), combined with (aleph)-waw-daleth-he ("I will praise"). With the aleph dropped and the waw shared, the meaning of the name is literally "YHUH I will praise."
Others have translated Yahudah as "Let YHUH be praised" or "The one for whom YHUH is praised" (p. 1224, The Scriptures, the Institute for Scripture Research, South Africa). Thus one meaning of Yahudim is "those who praise YHUH."
Do you see a problem with "those who praise YHUH" being one definition of the true worshipers of Israel, the Yahudim? Perhaps this definition adds new insight to the inscription on the stake and the call for humility in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Matt. 27 :37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS YESHUA THE SOVEREIGN OF THE YAHUDIM.New King James Version replacing Jesus, King, and Jews with Yeshua, Sovereign, and Yahudim, respectively. 2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
So, to whom do the laws of the Yahudim apply?
